Today was a bittersweet day for the Wayne County Sheriff’s Office.  Detention Sgt. Barbara cook retired today after serving the citizens of Wayne County for over 27 years. Sheriff Pierce thanked her for her years of dedicated service and stated that he wished Sheriff Carey Winders could have been present for this occasion. Sgt. Cook also acknowledged that she wished he was present but she knew he was looking down on her at this moment. Sgt. Cook thanked everyone for the opportunity to be a part of the Sheriff’s Office and she will miss her co-workers tremendously. Sgt. Cook has been a faithful and dedicated employee and she will be sorely missed.  The Sheriff’s Office wishes her a long and happy retirement as she has certainly earned it.
