Wayne County Issues State of Emergency Effective March 16, 2020

Press Releases Posted on March 15, 2020

Wayne County, NC – The County of Wayne has issued a State of Emergency in response to Governor Roy Cooper’s announcement that all public schools shall remain closed until March 27, 2020. This State of Emergency has no restrictions but allows Wayne County to be eligible for federal and state reimbursement for any expenses related to COVID-19 response.

Wayne County Board of Commissioner Chairman E. Ray Mayo said, “This is an imperative move for the County and participating municipalities to ensure we are eligible and prepared to access federal and state funding. This is important for us to remain proactive in responding to COVID-19 in Wayne County, and allows us to continue County operations with all public schools being closed in the state.”

For information on COVID-19, the Wayne County Health Department has a website available at www.waynegov.com/coronavirus.
