Wayne County To Begin Mosquito Spraying This Week

Press Releases Posted on April 08, 2019

Wayne County, NC – Beginning this week, the County of Wayne will begin mosquito control spraying as part of a continuing effort to control mosquito populations across the county after flooding. This spraying is made possible with remaining state funds designated for mosquito abatement after Hurricane Florence.

Spraying will be done from vehicles at dawn and dusk. GIS maps of spraying routes along with DriftWatch™ notifications were used to ensure there would be no threat to bees and sensitive ecosystems. If residents see a spraying application in their area, they should remain indoors while the application is taking place.

To help control the mosquito population around your property, remember to eliminate standing water around your yard in buckets, bird baths, toys, etc. If you are working outside during peak mosquito hours, wearing long-sleeved shirts, long pants, and socks will limit skin exposure to mosquito bites. The Centers for Disease Control and prevention recommends products containing DEET or others approved by the EPA for preventing bites.
