Child Care Sanitation Inspections

The Environmental Health Department conducts child care sanitation inspections at least twice a year at licensed child care centers. The inspection focuses on many areas of the center such as:
  • General cleanliness
  • Proper hand washing
  • Proper sanitizing/disinfecting procedures
  • Proper storage of medication and chemicals
  • Water temperatures
The child care center is issued one of four sanitation classifications--Superior, Approved, Provisional, or Disapproved based on the number of demerits deducted.

The NC Division of Child Development issues the operating license for all child care centers. Information on all licensed child care centers can be found on their website.
