Groundbreaking for DHHS Facility

DHHS Groundbreaking

On Tuesday, August 15th, we broke ground on the new unified Health and Human Services building coming to Wayne County! This facility will house our former Health Department and Department of Social Services, now combined into one unified department. With this new facility, residents of Wayne County will have better access to crucial services, and employees will have a modern facility to serve clients.

"Our vision is clear – to create a space where healthcare and support are seamless, access to vital resources is affordable, and every individual can receive the care they deserve," said Wayne County Board of Commissioners Chairwoman Barbara Aycock. "We look forward to the day when this empty piece of land is replaced by open doors, welcoming you into a facility that is equipped not just with modern amenities but with the compassion and care that makes our county great."

"Our employees will finally be under one roof, working in unison, in a state-of-the-art facility designed to provide the best of care," added Assistant County Manager Ginger Moore.

Social Services Director Kimberly McGuire said, "In my twenty-year career with Wayne County and the Department of Social Services, I have heard many conversations regarding the need for a new facility. Today, I want to thank our current Board of Commissioners for finishing the conversation and acting on the need."

Construction will begin soon, and this facility is expected to be completed in the fall of 2024.
