Wayne County has promoted Sara Larson to human resources director, filling the vacancy as Human Resources Director Ginger Moore moves to the assistant county manager position. Larson will start her new role on October 1, 2022, with an annual salary of $100,000.

"If you haven't had the pleasure of working with Sara already, you will quickly discover that she is knowledgeable, talented, motivated, and detail-oriented," said Ginger Moore, human resources director. "I know our current and future employees will enjoy working with her, and she will continue pushing the department forward."

Larson grew up in Darlington County, South Carolina, and graduated from Western Governors University with a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Master of Science in Management and Leadership. Her professional background includes multiple levels of management and leadership in federal, state, and local government since 2010. She joined Wayne County as the assistant human resources director in September 2019 after her family was stationed at Seymour Johnson Air Force Base. In 2021, she was awarded the Senior Certified Professional Certification from the International Public Management Association for Human Resources.

"I appreciate the leaders in Wayne County for allowing me the opportunity to support the staff and residents and for having the confidence to promote and support the various background experiences that have led me to accept this role," said Larson. "I'm proud to be here and know I will be successful with the continued support of my mentors at work and in the community. The Wayne County staff and leaders have been incredible to work with, and I'm happy to be at their service."
