Commissioner Gurley was appointed to the Wayne County Board of Commissioners in July 2014 to serve District 4.
Commissioner Gurley is a member of the Rosewood First Baptist Church, Wayne Masonic Lodge #112 and Travelers Protection Association. He is a past board member for Wayne County American Red Cross, Wayne County Days of Caring (Chairman) and Rosewood Middle School Advisory Committee. He served on Oakland Fire Department for 25 years, including the Wayne County Firemen’s Association as past secretary/treasurer and received the G. Edgar Summerlin Award for Fireman of the Year.
Commissioner Gurley is a lifelong resident of the Oakland community. He worked for the County of Wayne for 36 years in the following departments: Animal Control, Building and Grounds and Office of Emergency Services. During his time in Emergency Services, Mr. Gurley was the Emergency Services Director where he was a recipient for the Wayne County Department Manager of the Year.
