Anyone 18 and over can adopt a pet from the Wayne County Animal Adoption and Education Center.  You do not need to be a Wayne County resident. There is a tremendous overpopulation problem of dogs and cats in this country.  Each year millions of pets are destroyed because there aren't enough good homes. Any cat or dog adopted from the Adoption and Education Center must be spayed or neutered by a veterinarian.
The Center does not offer spaying or neutering services at this time. The Center does recommend contacting the Wayne County Humane Society, one of your local veterinarians or SNAP-NC for assistance with low-cost spaying and neutering. Failure to meet this requirement is a violation of Section 2-3-30(B) of the Wayne County Animal Control Ordinance and subject to a fine and/or repossession of the animal.

To adopt a pet from the Adoption and Education Center:

    1.  Visit the shelter during business hours.
    2.  Select an animal.
    3.  Complete the adoption application
    4.  Complete the brief paperwork.
    5.  Pay the adoption fee - $50.00 for all animals.
We welcome all inquiries and individuals interested in adopting a pet.
*The Department of Animal Control Services reserves the right
to deny adoptions on a case by case basis.
