Tips on Saying "No" and Remaining Abstinent

  • Discuss your decision with your significant other – Make sure they understand your decision to remain abstinent. Be firm in your decision. The right person will respect your choice.

  • Avoid compromising situations – Avoid being alone with your significant other. Plan group dates with friends.

  • Consider your future – Think about what you want to do in life (college, marriage, career, etc.). Engaging in sexual activity at an early age, can disrupt your plans for the future.

  • Your religion/faith – If you have chosen to be abstinent because of your religion/faith, use that for support. Many teens that practice abstinence have named religion as the main reason.

  • Your support system – This could be your family, friends, pastor, teacher, etc.
