Drug Squad

The Drug Squad is a specialized unit of the Enforcement Division and is responsible for all aspects of our investigative response to the illicit drug activity that affects our communities in Wayne County. Crimes committed by both the drug pushers and the addicts are a high priority for this Office. As such, the investigators assigned to this unit are highly trained and motivated to make a difference in our battles against drug dealers and the poisons that they sell. These specialized investigators are armed with the latest techniques and equipment to conduct undercover operations.
The Wayne County Drug Squad consists of:
1 Lieutenant
1 First Sergeant
1 Corporal
3 Detectives
This includes one officer that is assigned to the DEA Task Force.
Distribution & Manufacturing
One of the major focuses of the unit is targeting the upper levels of the drug dealing operation, such as those involved with distribution and/or manufacturing of the narcotics. Examples of this are our efforts to identify and shut down Meth Labs; interdiction strategies aimed at stopping the transportation of drugs into the county; making use of the OH-58A, Raven, to assist in locating and eradicating “pot growing” operations.

Tips Are Essential
Narcotic investigators depend upon the vital flow of drug-related information from various sources, including those from informants, concerned citizens, Crime-stoppers’ tips, private businesses, and other governmental agencies. This information is essential in identifying the poison peddlers and their haunts. We treat all information that we receive confidentially.

Negative Impact of Drugs
Illegal drugs have such a huge negative impact on our communities. These poisons debilitate its users morally, socially, and economically; turning the people we know and love into creatures that will remorselessly lie and steal to fuel their addictions. As a community, we lose productive and law-abiding neighbors, to a life-style of dependency and crime. As parents, we lose the dreams for our children’s futures, for a waking nightmare of worry and dread. The Drug Squad exists to address these issues by developing strategies to counter our county’s drug related crimes by targeting those that distribute, manufacture, and sell misery in its many forms.

Goldsboro-Wayne County Inter-Agency Drug Task Force

The Goldsboro-Wayne County Inter-Agency Drug Task Force was formed in the mid 1970's and is one of the longest running multi-jurisdictional Task Forces in North Carolina. This Squad consists of 7 Wayne County Sheriff's Office members, 4 members from the Goldsboro Police Department, and a Special Agent from the North Carolina State Bureau of Investigations.

Federal Cooperation
This Division works closely with Federal Agencies such as the D.E.A., U.S. Customs and the U.S. Treasury Department. Efforts are also combined with the Air Support Division of the Sheriff's Office.

Their investigations have spanned from North Carolina to California. The largest single seizure to date occurred during an investigation which originated in Texas. This case resulted in the seizure of over $1.9 million in marijuana. Total weight of this seizure exceeded 800 pounds. Currently, there are several investigations ongoing that extend outside the North Carolina borders.

Success Stories
During one recent year, this Task Force was involved in over 168 major felony arrests and seized over $12.1 million dollars in cash, drugs and property. As a result of these seizures, over $400,000 in cash was returned to the agencies to aid in purchasing equipment, fuel for AirWatch 1, and vehicles for the Task Force.
